Matt Bonner started playing basketball professionally in 2003 and he retired in 2016. He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by the Chicago Bulls in the 2003 NBA draft. He was soon traded to the Toronto Raptors.

At the moment of the trade, Raptors didn’t have a roster spot available and asked him to play overseas. Then he signed with the Sicilia Messina of the Italian league in Messina, Sicily in 2003.

He joined the Raptors in September 2004 and signed a one-year contract. He again signed a two-year contract extension with the Raptors in August 2005.

On 21 June 2006, Bonner was traded to the San Antonio Spurs where he won his first NBA championship. He has again won his second NBA Championship after defeating Miami Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals.

After joining the Spurs, Matt Bonner was neither signed nor traded to other teams. He played for the Spurs until his retirement and he retired on 6 January 2017. After his retirement, he joined San Antonio Spurs TV Broadcast as a studio analyst.
