Stromile Swift started playing basketball in 2000 and he retired in 2010. He started playing professionally after being elected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2000 NBA draft. He played for the Grizzlies till 2005 and left the team becoming a free agent.

Then he signed a four-year contract worth $22 million with the Houston Rockets but he was soon traded back to the Grizzlies in 2006.

On 4 February 2008, he was traded to New Jersey Nets in exchange for Jason Collins but he was released from the team on 1 March 2009 making him a free agent.

On 4 March 2009, he signed with the Phoenix Suns for the rest of the remainder of the season. He signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in September 2009 but he was soon released from the team on 12 October 2009.

After onwards, Stromile Swift signed with the Shandong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association in December 2009. After playing in CBA, he retired from playing basketball professionally. He started a small trucking company called SS Transports.
