Sarah Hyland and her second kidney transplantation

Sarah Hyland had undergone her second kidney transplantation in 2017. This time around the kidney was donated by her younger brother, Ian.

The first transplant had failed and at that time the kidney donor was her father, actor Edward Hyland. Sarah has some respiratory infection and conjunctivitis and has taken treatment for both ailments.

Otherwise, she is doing fine and has been discharged from the hospital.

But, Sarah is relieved to be back home and to be with her boyfriend Wells Adams. Hence, she put up a video of herself with her boyfriend and informed her fans on her social media:

“Well, I’m out of the hospital. Wells just informed me that it’s National Puppy Day. Every day is National Puppy Day.”

Wells Adams also uploaded a series of videos of himself and Sarah on his social media and one of these videos showed them both singing. It was adorable!

Though Sarah is still a bit sick, she did take some time off to pamper herself. She posted another Instagram story in which she wrote:

“I got my roots touched up yesterday.”

Sarah has been updating her fans on her health. Before the hospitalization, she had posted a picture of herself with a face mask and had given a piece of advice to her followers to always carry face masks and a silk pillow to the hospital, if admitted.

After her first kidney transplant donated by her father failed to function, Sarah was extremely low. She felt that she was a burden on her family.

Additionally, she blamed herself for kidney rejection. She even had suicidal tendencies at that time. Sarah felt that she was letting her family down, particularly her father who had given her his kidney to save her life.

She had said:

“I would write letters in my head to loved ones of why I did it and my reasoning behind it, how it was nobody’s fault. I didn’t want to write it down on paper because I didn’t want anybody to find it. That’s how serious I was … It ended up being myself that got me out of that. I had to do it on my own. I told myself I had to do it on my own.”

Sarah Hyland and her kidney problem

Sarah, 28 has kidney dysplasia and her doctors diagnosed this congenital condition in her when she was a small child. Her first kidney transplant was performed in April 2012.

But after a few years, the transplanted kidney failed to work and she was operated on again in September 2017. She was again put on regular powerful anti-rejection medicines and steroids to prevent her body from rejecting the donated organ.

But she had to go on bed rest several times and the Modern Family star was away from the sets and filming on many occasions.
