In 1977, Mathias started his career as an actor with the TV series, Survivors. In the same year, he was featured in the movie,  A Bridge Too Far as an Irish Guard Lieutenant.

Some of his other movies include 1980- Priest of Love, 1982- Scarlet Pimpernel, and 1988- White Mischief.

As a Writer

As a writer, Mathias’ first play was Cowardice which starred Ian McKellen, Janet Suzman, and Nigel Davenport. Some of his plays include 1987- A Prayer For Wings- 1989 Poor Nanny and 1990- Swansea Boys. 

His writing also includes a novel, 1988- Manhattan Mourning, and a BBC TV film, 1992- The Lost Language of Cranes.
