Serena Williams is expecting baby number 2 with Alexis Ohanian
Tennis champion Serena Williams, 41, is pregnant and expecting her second child with her husband, Alexis Ohanian. The couple already has a 5-year-old daughter named Olympia.
Williams announced the pregnancy on her Instagram account, where she shared pictures of herself and Ohanian with the caption:
“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.”
The 39-time grand slam winner had previously expressed her desire to have another child after retiring from tennis in August last year.

She first gave a hint about her pregnancy during a Vogue livestream while talking to La La Anthony. She mentioned that three people were present during the interview – herself, Alexis, and the baby.
Williams opted to wear a striking black dress with rhinestone trim and sheer pleated sleeves for the Met Gala while her husband opted for a classic black tuxedo.
Williams’ first experience giving birth in 2017 was not an easy one
Serena Williams’ first experience of giving birth was a difficult one.
When she gave birth to her daughter in September 2017, there were complications during labor that required an emergency cesarean section delivery. This was very upsetting for her as the baby’s heart rate had dropped.
In addition, she also suffered from a pulmonary embolism after giving birth, which meant she had to spend six weeks in bed recovering and couldn’t return to her training.
Unfortunately, this was not her first experience with thromboembolism, as she had previously been hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism in 2011 that was believed to have resulted from deep vein thrombosis.
In addition, she also experienced postpartum depression, which she shared publicly in August 2018. After her daughter was born, she felt grateful to be alive but had to spend six weeks in bed recovering and adapting to motherhood.
She told PEOPLE at the time:
“My whole life I’ve been physically pushing my body to the limit. And this is the one time where I couldn’t control anything. I couldn’t push my body. My body pushed to its maximum. That was so hard.”

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian started their romantic journey in 2015 and have enjoyed each other’s company ever since.
The first meeting between the professional tennis player and the tech entrepreneur was coincidental, as they happened to be staying at the same hotel in Rome.

On December 10, 2016, in Rome, he proposed and she announced their engagement on Reddit on December 30, 2016.
She explained how he proposed:
“I came home a little late. Someone had a bag packed for me and a carriage awaited. Destination: Rome, to escort me to my very own ‘charming.’ Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle. At the same table we first met by chance. This time he made it not by chance, but by choice. Down on one knee, he said 4 words and I said yes.”
Their wedding took place in New Orleans on November 16, 2017, with a guest list that included notable names like Beyoncé, Anna Wintour, and Kim Kardashian.
