Sharon Leach’s Marriage and Career

After Mike Leach‘s death, football fans have sent their condolences to his wife Sharon Leach, who has managed to keep a quiet private life.

Sharon and Mike had been married for a long time. The two were college sweethearts after meeting at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

While Mike had a successful athletic career as the Mississippi State Coach, his wife worked as a legal secretary and administrative assistant for 14 years.

But she decided to put rest to her successful career and stay home to look after their kids after Mike was named as the OC at the University of Kentucky.

The couple shares children Janeen, Kim, Cody, and Kiersten.

Mike Leach’s career as a head coach and accomplishments

Mike Leach became the head coach of Mississippi State in 2020 after spending eight long seasons with Washington State.

He is known for having a record of 19-17 during his time as the coach of the team. Leach never played football during his college days.

He started his coaching career as an assistant at Cal Poly and College of the  Desert in 1987.

Then, in 1989, he served as the head coach of the Pori Bears in the American Football Association of Finland. His career took off when he linked up with Hal Mumme at Iowa Wesleyan.

One of the most famous quotes of Mike is,

“Pirates function as a team. There were a lot of castes and classes in England at the time. But with pirates, it didn’t matter if you were black, white, rich or poor. The object was to get a treasure. If the captain did a bad job, you could just overthrow him.”

Sharon Leach’s husband died after hospitalization in 2022

The coach died in December  2022 after suffering a heart condition at age 61.

His family released a statement confirming his death and said that he participated in an organ donation program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a final act of charity.

The Leach family said in a statement,

”We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world.”

“Thank you for sharing in the joy of our beloved husband and father’s life.”

Leach initially suffered a personal health issue at his Starkville after which he was airlifted to UMMC in Jackson.
