Steven Yeun and Joana Pak first met through a mutual friend in Chicago. However, Pak was dating someone else at the time.

A year later, they met each other again in a bar where Yeun was working as a bartender.

The actor told Martha Stewart Weddings:

“She walked into the bar where I was a really shitty bartender, and it was kismet. After that, I saw her every day for six months.”

He told GQ:

“I invited Jo out with two other friends who happened to be girls, which was the worst move of all time.”

He explained:

“Probably because I hadn’t been dating in so long, and by that point I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m just going to not let her know that I’m into her.’ I was playing dumb. Just lame-ass moves. Then we broke off on our own, and I saw her every day for the rest of the year.”

Steven Yeun and Joana Pak: Marriage Life, Children

The couple was in a long-distance relationship for a while as Yeun was filming The Walking Dead. The couple eventually became engaged in August 2015.

They got married in December 2016 in a small ceremony at Paramour Estate in Los Angeles, with close family and friends in attendance, including some of Yeun’s co-stars from TWD.

The wedding celebration also included elements that reflected the couple’s Korean background and American upbringing, such as traditional Korean clothing and a meal that combined Korean and American cuisine.

Kayce, who is Pak’s sister-in-law, posted a glimpse of the ceremony on her Instagram. She captioned:

“Getting to celebrate the love between these two, last night, along with all their friends and family was so beautiful and special!! This whole week has been an awesome, family-filled, fun time and it’s been so great! (We’ve also gained a brother in-law from it!)”

Yeun and Pak have since started a family together, and have two children named Jude Malcolm and a daughter, born on St. Patrick’s Day 2017 and April 2019, respectively.
