Shohei Ohtani was drafted in the first pick of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in the 20112 drafts. His first match for the Fighters was on March 29, 2013, in a season-opening game. He played as a right fielder for Fighters.

The Fighters used him as both a pitcher and a position player. By the end of the season, he recorded 3–0 with a 4.23 ERA with 33 walks to 46 K in 61 2/3 IP and hit .238/.284/.376 in 204 plate appearances.

In 2014, he played both as a hitter and pitcher. He batted .274, with 31 RBIs, and a .842 on-base plus percentage in 212 at-bats as a hitter.

The same year Shohei Ohtani was appointed as a member of the national baseball team of Japan. He continued to play with the Fighters till 2017.

Shohei signed a contract with Los Angeles Angels on December 8-9, 2018. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with sprained UCL in his right elbow.

After recovering from the injury, he played his first match against Oakland Athletics as a designated hitter for the Angels.

Shohei debuted as a pitcher for the Angels on April 1 and striking out six batters in six innings and made his first MLB win. He recorded 12 total bases and five RBI in his first three games.

He played against Boston Red Sox on April 18 and left after the second innings because of a blister in the middle finger of his right hand. Shohei has not yet played representing Japan.

He was selected on the 28-man roster of the Japanese Baseball team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Unfortunately, due to his ankle injury, he was not able to participate in the competition.
