Where is Ghana’s Sulemana Abdul Samed Today?
Sulemana Abdul Samed, a 29-year-old Ghanaian man, stood 9 feet 6 inches tall, making him thought to be the world’s tallest man.
The BBC reported that Samed, who hails from a hamlet in Northern Ghana, received a diagnosis of gigantism a few years ago.
However, because they lacked the necessary measurement equipment, the neighborhood clinic was unable to accurately determine his height.
A BBC reporter set out to discover Abdul Samed’s true height. After finding the right structure to measure Samed’s height against because he is taller than most of the houses in the village, they discovered a wall that was tall enough to record his height and discovered that his actual height was 7ft 4 inches. He is still very tall but the tallest man in the world is 8 feet 2.8 inches tall.
In an interview with the BBC, he said:
‘The way they measure me, I cannot say everything is perfect. I’m still growing tall. Who knows, maybe one day I may get to that height too.
He added:
“Every three months of four months I grow… If you’ve not seen me for three months or four and you see me, you’d realise I have increased.”
When Abdul was 22 years old and residing in Ghana’s capital Accra, he first became aware of his abnormal height gain. He described how one morning he woke up to discover that his tongue had grown so large in his mouth that he was unable to breathe normally.
What is ‘Marfan Syndrome’?
A tall Ghanaian citizen with Marfan Syndrome has an unusually curved spine. The genetic condition affects the connective tissues of the body, including the heart, eyes, blood vessels, and bones. Abnormally lengthy limbs are one of Marfan Syndrome’s most obvious symptoms.
According to the physicians, Samed will require brain surgery to stop the growth.
Sulemana Abdul Samed wants to get married and have children
In October on BBC News, he revealed his plans to get married and have kids. He said;
“I have plans of getting married, taking a wife and giving birth to see how my children will look like.”
The tallest man in Ghana revealed in the interview that he is satisfied with his appearance and has accepted it as how God created him. He added:
“This is how Allah chooses it for me and then, I am okay. I don’t have a problem with the way God has created me.”
Women approach local celebrity Awuche daily, attracted by his height, and wanting to take pictures with him.
“When ladies want to take a photo with me, they normally want me to put myself on them…to hold them so that they can feel they are taking a picture with the tallest man. Every three to four months, I grow tall.”
