Taylor Nolan: Know everything about her offensive tweets controversy! Did she apologize?
Taylor Nolan, the name may sound familiar. She is an alum of The Bachelor Nation who landed in a controversy after her past racist and offensive tweets resurfaced online in 2021. Did Taylor apologize? Know everything about her here.
Taylor Nolan and her association with The Bachelor Nation
Taylor Nolan is an American reality TV star who is an alum of The Bachelor Nation. Her first appearance was on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor in 2017. The show that started in 2002 is still going on.
Taylor tried to woo Nick but was not successful. She was sent home within the first five episodes. She had problems on the show when she had stated that her co-contestant Corinne Olympios has no emotional intelligence and had, in fact, even attempted to attack her.
Later, Taylor appeared on the show Bachelor in Paradise. She started a relationship with Derek Peth and the two had an engagement on the show. But they called off their engagement one year later.
Spon after that, she started urging for equality on the show. She adovcated for the BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color) community and gave instances where The Bachelor Nation alums had given insensitive statements.
Taylor’s past offensive tweets resurface
In March 2021, Taylor’s tweets that she had posted one decade back resurfaced on the internet. These posts were written over several years. And in these tweets, Taylor had mocked people belonging to several ethnic groups and race. She did not spare even those who suffered from mental disorders or had some disabilities.
Taylor had written offensive words about people who were not physically attractive and good-looking. Taylor was insensitive enough in these tweets to trivialize sexual assaults and suicides and ridiculed people who were victims of these acts.
People were aghast on reading her past tweets and were surprised that now she was advocating for social justice. They felt that she was a hypocrite and Taylor was at the receiving end. She got a severe backlash on social media.
Did Taylor apologize?
Taylor responded to the backlash by posting a video. But in this video, she gave an explanation and defended her statements. When viewers did not take her first apology, Taylor deleted this video and posted another video on her Instagram. In this second apology, Taylor wrote:
“Yesterday’s response was a reaction and not an apology. I’m sorry I didn’t take a second to come correct. I owe you all an apology,”
She added that she has revised her apology because the first one was not direct. Continuing further, she added:
“There is no question or defending that every word of my old tweets are harmful, wrong, triggering and incredibly upsetting to the communities that I identify with and that I support.”
She accepted that her past tweets were vicious and unacceptable but that was her past thinking and she no more thinks that way, she said. Taylor held herself accountable for those tweets and said that she was ignorant when she wrote those on her page.
Some people accepted her second apology, but Bekah Martinez, another The Bachelor Nation alum found it hard to accept it.
