He is very popular for his action films and revival of the Western genre.

He is widely known as the director of the films such as The Warriors, Hard Times, The Driver, Southern Comfort, and 48 Hrs.

From 1989 to 1991, he wrote, produced, and directed the hit series Tales from the Crypt.
