Zayn Malik talks about being a dad in a rare interview

Zayn Malik is making a comeback.

The former One Direction crooner made an interesting comment about fatherhood in a Call Her Daddy podcast episode which will air on Wednesday.

In a teaser video posted to Instagram, Malik who shares his daughter Khai with his former girlfriend Gigi Hadid said,

“Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her,”

In his first interview in six long years, Malik told the podcast host Alex Cooper,

“That’s why I’m even doing this interview, you know? I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this. And I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this.’”

Talking about how he transitioned into a dad, the Pillowtalk hitmaker said,

“I keep being told I’m telling dad jokes. And I’m leaning into it. I’m just like, ‘It’s OK. It’s cool.’
”People just look at me like I’m a weirdo, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m a dad, I’m allowed to tell these jokes now.’”

The Grammy nominee, 30, admitted that his perspective on life has changed drastically ever since welcoming Khai with Hadid, 28, in September 2020.

The British singer said,

“There’s a certain point in adult life where everything is vague and gray and boring and she’s brought that color back for me for sure.”

Why did Zayn and Gigi end their relationship?

Zayn and Gigi first met in 2015 at a friend’s birthday party. They were together on and off for almost six years.

During their break, the supermodel was linked to many famous names like race driver Lewis Hamilton and Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron.

After rekindling their romance in 2020, the couple welcomed their daughter Khai in September. But just over a year after that, in October 2021, the two finally called it quits after a fight that involved Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid.

At the time, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum claimed that the It’s You hitmaker pushed her and called her names. Zayn denied all the accusations but was sentenced to nearly a year of probation and domestic violence and anger management programs.

Despite their split, the former couple have been co-parenting their daughter.

Gigi also revealed the exes’ first priority is their daughter and they make sure to “the importance of the child’s happiness at the forefront.”

The model revealed that she schedules her work when her baby girl is with her dad and said “You have a long life alongside this person,”

She added,

“That she can be with both parents makes me very happy,”
