The actor is now grateful for the hard time that opened his eyes to many wonderful things in life ahead.
The Spanish actor also thanked his girlfriend Nicole Kimpel for saving his life.

Antonio Banderas recalled his heart attack with a grateful heart

Antonio Banderas does not feel about suffering a heart attack in 2017. The actor, in fact, revealed that the attack helped him realize the important things in life.

Nearly 5 years after the incident, the actor said:

”I realized that it probably was one of the best things that ever happened in my life because the things that were not important and I was worried every day about them, meaningless,”

The Spanish actor added:

“I was like, why am I worried about that if I’m going to die?”
“I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.”

The heart attack opened the Desperado actor’s eyes to truly important things like his daughter, Stella, his friends, and his career. He also confessed to detaching from “things that I thought were important before but weren’t really.”

The 62-year-old actor said that his longtime partner Nicole Kimpel saved his life when by giving him aspirin as soon as he started having the symptoms of a heart attack in 2017.

In March of that year, the Uncharted actor revealed that the attack was not a serious one and thankfully didn’t do as much damage as expected. He, however, went through a procedure to insert three stents into his arteries.

He revealed at the time:

“It hasn’t been as dramatic as some have written,”

Banderas revealed he is a positive person by nature

Banderas has been working ever since and will soon be back as the rapscallion feline in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The movie shows Puss discovering that he has burnt through eight of his nine lives and goes on a journey to find the mythical ultimate wish.

The dad of one revealed that despite having down moments in life, he’s a very positive person by nature and that doesn’t make his sadness last.

He said:

”My depressions last five minutes, I bounce back immediately.”

Banderas also hinted at his return to long-awaited return to Broadway after winning a Tony in 2003 for Nine. He is currently appearing on stage in Madrid in Company.

The Oscar nominee teased that his role will make sense for his Iberian accent and said:

“Something has been written as we talk,”

While the actor is no longer married to Melanie Griffith, he still shares a great stepfather-stepdaughter relationship with Dakota Johnson.

The actor also revealed the sweet nickname Dakota has for him. He said:

“She called me ‘Paponio,”
“I am ‘Papi’ and ‘Antonio’ altogether, so she always called me ‘Paponio.'”

In 2019, Johnson was presented with the Hollywood Actor Award for his role in Pain and Glory at the Hollywood Film Awards.
