Geldof was born in Dún Laoghaire, the Republic of Ireland on October 5, 1951, as Robert Frederick Xenon Geldof to parents Robert and Evelyn Geldof.

He became interested in the world of music in his childhood years. He is of Irish nationality. Furthermore, he belongs to a mixed ethnic background of Belgian (Flemish and Walloon), Ashkenazi Jewish, and Irish.

Bob Geldof initially worked in Canada as a pop journalist before returning home in 1975 to form the successful punk-rock group the Boomtown Rats.
