Celine Dion moves fans to tears by announcing her rare neurological syndrome
Celine Dion is resilient after finding out about her rare neurological condition Stiff Person Syndrome. The singer is now solely focusing on her health and her children amid this difficult time.
The syndrome causes Dion’s muscles to move uncontrollably.
On Thursday, the My Heart Will Go On singer shared a post on Instagram where she revealed that she is suffering from an incurable neurological condition. It ultimately forced her to postpone her European tour.
A source revealed on Friday:
‘Celine is overwhelmed and moved by the outpouring of love and support from her fans,
‘It’s been a very difficult time and she has a hard road ahead of her, but she is doing everything she can to get back on stage and see her fans.’
‘They have always been there for her. For now, she is focusing on her health and her children. She is the picture of resilience.’
The I’m Alive singer shares three sons- Rene-Charles, 21, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 12, with her late husband Rene Angelil, who passed away in 2016.
The condition which only affects one in a million people eventually leaves the affected ones as human statues. It is because the disease slowly locks the body into rigid positions which eventually causes them unable to walk or talk.
Celine thanked fans for their support during this difficult time
Unfortunately, there is no cure for SPS, but doctors have treatments to slow down their impact. Celine, on her part, is doing her best to minimize the symptoms.
The Canadian singer wrote in her emotional Instagram post:
‘Hello everyone, I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reach out to you. I miss you all so much and can’t wait to be on stage talking to you in person.
‘As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before but I’m ready now.
‘I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it has been really difficult for me to face my challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.
‘Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome, which affects one in a million people.
‘While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having.’
The songstress detailed the impact of the condition on her overall health and how it affects her daily life. It causes her difficulties while walking. Moreover, Celine also has trouble using her vocal cords to sing like she used to.
She apologized to her fans about having to postpone her European Tour which was supposed to happen in February.
Dion also mentioned how much she loves singing and her fans. The sad announcement came just three months after she had to cancel her Vegas comeback residency over the same cause.
