CNN Philippines anchor and senior correspondent, Amelyn Veloso dies at 43, after a long battle with cancer
- Amelyn Veloso, a CNN Philippines veteran anchor passed away on Thursday morning.
- The CNN senior correspondent died at the age of 43 after battling cancer for three years.
While talking about her death, CNN Philippines senior anchor Pia Hontiveros said,
“In her final moments, she was surrounded by her immediate family— her husband, Rodney Zapanta, and their 14-year-old son Gab, and her mother, Amelita.”
Amelyn has diagnosed with cancer almost three years ago and struggling with the disease each and every moment. According to reports, she had not lost hope and faced cancer like a veteran.
Finally, Amelyn was not able to bear the pain and gave up. Her funeral will take place on Sunday, August 27th.

Amelyn Veloso Legacy
Initially, Amelyn began her broadcasting career by joining IBC 13 in 1997. After that, she anchored the shows on TV5 alongside Sen. Richard Gordon. Furthermore, she was the main member of CNN Philippines.
Amelyn has been the ace of CNN Philippines since the day of its establishment. She was working at CNN since March 16, 2015, and also presented several popular shows such as New Day, Newsroom, and Serbisyo All Access. Despite being in pain Amelyn regularly attained her programs.
In addition, she has also anchored for Solar Daybreak and Solar Headlines. Moreover, Amelyn was also seen presenting the breaking news.
During her time on CNN, she has worked with many big names such as Martin Andanar, Presidential Communications Secretary.
CNN Philippines senior anchor and Amelyn long time friend Pia Hontiveros said,
“We always thought of her as beautiful, inside and out. There was not a single mean bone in her body. It was a reminder for all of us that life, indeed, is very short. She will be missed by all of us.”
Senior broadcasters, lawyers, and celebrities mourn her death by posting heart-melting condolence on social media. Broadcaster and real estate agent Richard J. Gordon Tweets,
“I’m heartbroken over the loss of a great gentle & lovely creature of God, Amelyn Veloso. Not just a TV professional but a kind-hearted person.”
Lawyer and journalist Mel Sta Maria posted a photo on Facebook stating,
“Amelyn Veloso may you rest in peace.One of the best broadcasters I have known. I will miss you, my friend. I will miss our breakfasts together. God bless you.”
