David attended Salem High School and graduated from there in 1993. After that, he attended the University of Michigan and graduated with his degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts.

David also had a role in the American premiere of Edward Albee’s The Play About the Baby. He won the 2001 Clarence Derwent Award for the most promising male performer for his performance in The Play About the Baby.

In 2004, Burtka originated the role of Matt in the musical The Opposite of Sex. He appeared as Scooter in seven episodes of How I Met Your Mother.

He played Michael Beck in the 2015 TV film American Horror Story: Freak Show. His other acting projects are known for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011), Neil’s Puppet Dreams (2012), and CSI: NY (2004).

David began his professional chef career in 2009. He has been a successful person in his career.

In April 2019, Life is a Party, his first cookbook, a collection of recipes and tips on entertainment was published.
