Ed Sheeran is revealing his wife Cherry Seaborn‘s cancer diagnosis in a candid way to his fans.

He talks about the difficult experience of finding out that his pregnant wife had cancer in February 2022, in the first episode of his new Disney+ docuseries titled Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which is set to be released on Wednesday.

In the episode named “Love,” Sheeran and Seaborn have a heartfelt conversation, where Seaborn talks about why she agreed to be part of the documentary despite usually avoiding the limelight.

She talks about her diagnosis:

“I got diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year which was a massive s—ter. It made me massively reflect on our mortality. I would never agree to do anything like this but it made me think, ‘Oh if I died, what’s people’s perception of me? What do you leave behind?'”

She talks about her husband:

“For Ed, the whole point is he wants to say to people, ‘I’m not just this music machine. I’m not just this robot that tries to get No. 1. I’m a father, I’m a son, I’m a friend.’ It wasn’t until this year when I was like, ‘I might die.'”

Ed then gets teary-eyed as he says:

“It was horrible.”

The singer also says that he wrote seven songs in four hours to express his pain.

Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn like keeping things private

Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn have chosen to keep their romantic relationship private, but their low-profile love story still manages to captivate fans.

The famous “Shape of You” singer had known Seaborn since childhood in Sheffield, England, but they only became a couple in 2015.

Sheeran revealed to Us Weekly that he was able to reconnect with Seaborn in New York City with the help of a “mutual friend” who was working on his tour.

He talked about her in 2017:

“When we came to New York, where she was living at the time, we hung out and reconnected through. She’s great.”

Sheeran’s 2017 super hit song, “Perfect” was inspired by Seaborn. The singer said he “didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So, he just emailed it to her.”
