Gigi Hadid quits Twitter calling it a cesspool of hate and bigotry
Gigi Hadid is not on Twitter anymore.
The supermodel took to Instagram on Friday to announce why she is quitting the controversial platform after Elon Musk‘s takeover. She even went on to call Twitter a cesspool of hate and bigotry.
Hadid told her fans that she quit the social media platform amid the mass layoffs, including the human rights team.
Gigi wrote of Musk:
“For a long time, but especially with its new leadership,”
“it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and its [sic] not a place I want to be a part [sic] of.”
The 27-year-old also apologized to her fans on the tech giant and said she loved connecting with them.
The mom-of-one continued:
“I can’t stay it’s a safe place for anyone nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”
Besides her opinion, Hadid also posted Human Rights Counsel Shannon Rah Singh‘s tweet about being thrown off the platform.
After Musk’s takeover, many unthinkable changes have been made including firing roughly half of their workforce and charging a certain amount monthly to those with verified accounts.
The company sent an email to staff explaining that the cuts were ”necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward.”

Other celebs who quit Twitter after Musk’s takeover
Gigi is not the first celebrity to bid goodbye to the company. Toni Braxton previously announced that she would also be staying away from the social media site as well.
Explaining what compelled her to quit the tech giant, she wrote last month:
“I’m shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech’ I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of ‘free speech’ is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC,”
Other celebs including Shonda Rhimes, Sara Bareilles, and Tea Leoni also vowed to never come back to Twitter in October.
Rhimes wrote:
“Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,”
Meanwhile, Kanye West, who got his Twitter account banned last month due to his anti-Semitic remarks got his account back after Twitter got its new owner.
After getting his suspended account back, West was quick to slam some of his former employees who were against his hate speech.
West’s former personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, who is Jewish, was his next target.
Alongside a screenshot of a conversation between the two, the Yeezy founder tweeted:
”What should be obvious by now is that I was raised to stand for my truth regardless of the consequences,”
“So I will say this again I was mentally misdiagnosed and nearly drugged out of my mind to make me a manageable well behaved celebrity.”
