Jada Pinkett Smith revealed she and Will Smith had been separated for six years when he slapped Chris Rock.
She said they’re “figuring” out their marriage.

Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Will Smith had split for six years before the actor’s infamous 2022 Oscar slap.

The Girls Trip star told People on Wednesday,

”We’re still figuring it out,”
“We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”

Pinkett said that despite her husband slapping Chris Rock at the awards, which she initially thought was a skit, she will always support him.

She said of Will,

“I’m going to be by his side but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”

The Nutty Professor star, 52, admitted to the outlet that she only realized the slap was real when Will, 55, got back to his seat.

She recalled asking him ”Are you OK?’” once they were alone after the latter slapped the comedian for making fun of his wife’s alopecia.

In a sneak of her interview with Hoda Kotb which airs on Friday, Pinkett added that she and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star still live separately.

Although the pair had been separated for years, the couple never showed that there was any kind of trouble in their marriage.

They both attended Red Carpets as a family with their kids and even bought a new property together.

Jada Pinkett Smith admitted to having an affair

In 2020, singer August Alsina claimed that he had an affair with Jada which he claimed Will consented.

The couple’s reps denied the claims. Jada, however, later revealed that she had an entanglement with Alsina. She admitted that she and the Oscar winner had privately separated at the time of her affair.

A year later, Smith said that the Scream 2 actress had an open marriage because she didn’t want to feel like in prison.

In the 2022 GQ cover story, he said,

“I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody,”

“But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”

Internet users were confused about the couple’s relationship with one commenting,

One fan talked about the infamous slap, writing,

”Thought ‘it was a skit’? Yeah, right. Will Smith laughed at the joke until he glanced over at Pinkett and saw her ‘evil snake eye’.”
