James Bennet was born on 28th March 1966 in Boston, Massachusetts. He is of British ethnicity.

His father, Lt. Douglas J. Bennet was an American Political Official. His mother, Susanne Klejman is a native of Washington, D.C. They got married to each other on 27th June 1959. Later, they parted ways via divorce in 1995.

He has two siblings including an elder brother, Michael Bennet, and a sister, Holly. Michael is serving as the Senior United States Senator since 2009.

Moving to his academics, he completed his High School education at the St. Albans School. Later, he completed his bachelor’s degree from Yale University with Honors in Arts.

He started his career as a journalist with the regional newspapers, The News & Observer and The New Republic.

Moving forward, in 1989, he joined The Washington Monthly in editing posts.

Two years later, he left the magazine to join The New York Times and the work in the posts including White House Correspondent and Jerusalem Bureau Chief.

In late 2006, he became he started working as a correspondent for Bejing. Later, he resigned from the post and joined The Atlantic as 14th editor-in-chief.

In March 2016, he was appointed as an Editorial page editor for The New York Times. On 7th June 2020, he resigned from the newspaper after an op-ed, Send in the Troops got published by Sen. Tom Cotton.
