James Risch is an American Republican politician, rancher, and attorney.

He currently serves as the junior United States Senator from Idaho.

From 2003 to 2006 and 2007 to 2009, he served as the 39th and 41st Lieutenant Governor of Idaho.

Rosch also served as the 31st Governor of Idaho from 2006 to 2007.

He was born on May 3, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. His full name is James Elroy Risch.

His father, Elroy A. Risch was of German descent, who worked as a lineman for the local telephone company.

His mother, Helen B. Levi was of Irish, Scottish, and English ancestry.

James is an American by nationality and belongs to the mixed ethnicity of German, Irish, Scottish, and English.

Education

James enrolled at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1961. He then transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow in 1963.

At the University of Idaho, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1965.

After that, he attended the University of Idaho’s College of Law.

From there, he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1968. While at the College of Law, he worked on Law Review at the College of Law Advisory Committee.

James Risch: Professional Life, Career

James Risch began his political career in 1970 in Boise at age 27. He entered politics winning the election as Ada County prosecuting attorney.

At the same time, he taught undergraduate classes in criminal justice at Boise State College.

After that, he served as the president of the state’s prosecuting attorneys association.

He first became the Idaho Senate from Ada County in 1974.

After that, he entered the state senate leadership in 1976 as Majority Leader and later as President Pro Tempore.

In 2002, James defeated Jack Riggs in the Republican primary and won the general election.

After that, Risch became Governor of Idaho On May 26, 2006. He then appointed Mark Ricks to serve as his Lt. Governor.

James was selected as the Republican nominee for Craig’s open seat in the U.S. Senate in May 2008.

He won the election with 58% of the vote. At the United States Senate election in Idaho, in 2014, Risch won the Republican primary with 79.9% of the vote.

In 2017, Risch signed a letter to President Donald Trump urging the President to have the United States withdraw from the Paris Agreement.
