James Rubin initially started working at the Arms Control Association as the Assistant Director of Research. Remaining under the President Clinton administration, he served the Public Affairs and Chief Spokesman for the State Department as an Assistant Secretary for about three years. He was considered to be the right hand of Secretary Madeleine Albright while working under the Clinton administration.

Rubin relocated to London with his family after leaving the government. He started serving the London School of Economics as a Visiting Professor of International Relations. Further, he made his appearance in PBS’s Wide Angle series as a host which is a weekly program based in international affairs.

After returning to the United States, he worked for General Wesley Clark’s presidential campaign as chief foreign policy spokesman but later Clark withdrew from 2004 Presidential Primaries.

After that, he served national security affairs as a senior advisor from which he was able to earn wide popularity within a short period of time. He returned back to London in October 2005 where he served World News Tonight on Sky News as a lead news anchor until July 2006.

After that, he moved back to the United States where he became a member of Hillary Clinton’s campaign team and was dedicated to the 2008 Democratic nomination.

He also became the guest on Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer on CNN during the 2008 campaign in a discussion about foreign policy discussion. In December 2010, he became the part of the Bloomberg News and oversees editorial issues in Central and South America, the Middle East, Mexico, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

He quit the position after 10 months and started working at Columbia University as an adjacent professor. He works as commissioner of the Port Authority in 2011.

On 29 May 2013, he resigned from all of his US-based positions and revealed that his entire family would now move to London to work for multiple projects.
