Leon Black is an American investor. He co-founded a private equity firm Apollo Global Management along with seven other members in 1990.

He at present serves as a chairperson of the Museum of Modern Arts (MOMA).

He was born on 31 July 1951 in Manhattan, New York, the United States. The name of his father was Eli M. Black and his mother’s name was Shirley Lubell.

His dad killed himself in 1975 by jumping out of the 44th floor of the Pan Am Building. Leon belongs of Jewish descent.

Regarding academics, he joined Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Van High School.

Then he went to Dartmouth College and gained a BA degree in Philosophy and History in 1973. Then he enrolled at Harvard University for master’s in Business Administration.

Leon Black used to be an accountant at Peat Marwick. After this, he served the Drexel Burnham Lambert, an investment bank from 1977 to 1990.

Then in 1990, he co-founded an equity firm named Apollo Global Management. The other members were John Hannan, Craig Cogut (lawyer), Arthur Bilger, Antony Ressler, Marc Rowan, Josh Harris, and Michael Gross.

He was CEO of this firm but due to the Jeffrey Epstein case, he opted out. However, Leon is still a chairman.

Leon’s owned sculpture Bust of a Woman was once lawsuit by Pelham Europe and Larry Gagosian. Europe sold this art piece to Black by saying he owns it.
