Luke Walton was born on 18 March 1980 in San Diego, California, USA. He has an American nationality and has North American ethnicity.

He is the son of Susie and Bill Walton, Luke Walton. His birth name is Luke Theodore Walton. He was named after his father’s close friend Maurice Lucas. Luke has three brothers, Adam, Nathan, and Chris. 

He graduated from the University of San Diego High School in 1998. For his further study, he attended the University of Arizona where he also played basketball under coach Lute Olson.

Talking about the career journey of Luke Walton, he has been active in the professional basketball game since 2003 and he retired in 2013. He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2003 NBA draft.

Luke Walton was one of the favorite players of Lakers fans and he was also chosen to represent team Los Angeles in Shooting Stars Competition during All-Star Weekend in 2005.

On 12 July 2007, he signed a six-year contract extension worth $30 million with the Lakers. On 15 March 2012, he was traded to Cleveland Cavaliers along with Jason Kapono in exchange for Ramon Sessions and Christian Eyenga.

Luke Walton began his coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Memphis during the 2011 NBA lockout.

After his retirement, he became a player developmental coach in Los Angeles D-League during the 2013-14 seasons. On 3 July 2014, he became the assistant coach for Golden State Warriors where he won his first NBA Finals in 2015 as a coach.

On 29 April 2016, he was hired by the Lakers to become their new head coach and since then he is engaged with the team as a head coach. In 2013, he was also hired by Time Warner Cable SportsNet to join their Lakers on-air broadcast team.
