Who was Mark Colvin?

Mark Colvin was an Australian journalist and broadcaster. He was the presenter of ‘PM’ on the ABC Radio network.

Additionally, he released his autobiography, ‘Light and Shadow: Memoirs of a Spy’s Son’ in 2016.

Mark Colvin’s Early Life, Childhood, and Education

Colvin was born in London on 13 March 1952, to parents John Horace Ragnar Colvin and Elizabeth Anne Manifold.

His family Colvin family had a long history of military and administrative service to Australia. He belonged of Australian and British nationality.

Furthermore, there are no details about his ethnicity at present. His father was a spy for MI6.

Talking about his education, Colvin graduated from Oxford University with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature.

Mark Colvin’s Career, Salary, Net Worth

Colvin joined ABC’s rock music station, Double Jay, in January 1975. He became the first reporter on ‘Nationwide’ later.  Additionally, he was appointed as a foreign correspondent in London in 1980.

He also became the founding presenter of ‘The World Today on ABC radio. He was also the reporter for ‘Four Corners’ between 1988 and 1992.

Colvin covered some of the major incidents around the world including the Iranian hostage crisis, famines in Africa, the rise of the Solidarity movement in Poland, and the break-up of the Soviet Union among others.

He received a kidney transplant from a living donor on 22 March 2013. Later, he died aged 65, at the Prince of Wales Hospital on 11 May 2017. The cause of death was granulomatosis with polyangiitis.

Although he survived the kidney transplant, Colvin later suffered from melanoma. Additionally, he was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.
