Meghan Markle scores big legal victory brought by Samantha Markle
Meghan Markle wins!
The Duchess of Sussex won the defamation lawsuit brought against her by her half-sister, Samantha Markle.
The judge dismissed the suit against Markle on Tuesday with prejudice which means senior Markle can not level her claim again.
Court documents showed that Samantha “failed to identify any statements that could support a claim for defamation or defamation-by-implication by this point, her third try at amending her complaint…”
The judge also clarified that there were no examples of defamation in Harry and Meghan’s bombshell sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on CBS in March 2021.
Florida District Court Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell found that Samantha, 59, provided “mischaracterizations of the [interview] transcript” and determined that the couple’s statements about Samantha and their father, Thomas Markle, were “quintessential examples of opinion.”
Samantha sued the former actress, 42, in March 2022, claiming that the latter made “false and malicious statements” during her sit-down with Winfrey.
She accused the former Suits alum of making false claims about being “an only child.” Also, she said, Meghan lied about the timeframe of when they last met each other.
Samantha alleged that the former Tig blogger bashed their dad Thomas to create a false “rags-to-royalty” narrative of her life.
She demanded $75,000 in damages and for the cost of court and attorney’s fees.

How did Meghan react to the lawsuit?
In response, Meghan called the lawsuit meritless.
The duchess’s legal response said at the time,
“We do not empanel juries to rule on whether two people are ‘close,’ or whether one genuinely feels that they ‘grew up as an only child,’”
“Courts are not equipped to adjudicate the legitimacy of a person’s feelings about their childhood and relationships. Nor should they be.”
Meg’s attorney also told TMZ that the suit was “baseless and absurd” and “a continuation of a pattern of disturbing behavior.”
He added,
“We will give it the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves,”
This has been a busy week for the Sussexes. Most recently, Meghan and Harry were seen at San Antonio International Airport recently after a slew of visits around Texas.
Last week, the couple arrived in Texas to attend South by Southwest. The Duchess was a keynote speaker for the opening-day panel honoring International Women’s Day.
After that, the parents of two visited Uvalde for a charity event at a playground. Their organization Archewell Foundation built the place.
