Though she came from avant-garde jazz (Fancypants Hoodlum), an underground cauldron of acoustic folk (Mermaid Café), and deconstructed noise swarms (the Shit), it wasn’t until the turn of the decade (2000) that her fearless, political gender play attracted mainstream attention.

After some time, Peaches moved to XL, which is in 2002, reissued The Teaches of Peaches. In 2003, she released Fatherfucker followed by Impeach My Bush in 2006.

Peaches worked with Simian Mobile Disco for 2009’s I Feel Cream and experimented more with electronic music.

Merrill then took a break from recording and appeared in a one-woman version of Jesus Christ Superstar entitled, Peaches Christ Superstar.

Some of her other projects included Peaches Does Herself, which raised her to fame. She then released the book What Else Is in the Teaches of Peaches, which documented her between-album work.

With longtime producer, Vice Collier, and other guests including Kim Gordon, Feist, and Simonne Jones, she returned for 2015’s Rub.

On 29 April 2017, Peaches performed Boys Wanna Be Her at the Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. In February 2019, she made her debut with the Staatstheater Stuttgart and performed as Anna in Die Sieben Todsünden.
