Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are no longer married couples! The Gone Girl star, 47, shared the breakup news on Friday, March 24, in a joint Instagram post with a lengthy statement.

The statement reads,

“We have some personal news to share, It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together,”

She then continued, stating,

“Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”

Resse and Jim together shared a 10-year-old son named Tennessee James. The actress is also mother to two other children Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, whom she shared with ex-partner Ryan Phillippe.

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE the pair split up in an amicable decision and intend to remain “best of friends”. An insider said,

“They are so committed to to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone.”

Although Reese and Jim marked their 12th wedding anniversary today they are not together.

Last time, they celebrated their anniversary together in 2022 marking their 11th wedding anniversary. Reese paid anniversary wishes to her then-husband Jim Toth via Instagram post writing,

“Happy Anniversary JT!!11 years of adventures, love & laughter. I feel so lucky to share this wonderful life with you.”

Reese first met Jim at a friend’s house shortly after her breakup with Jake Gyllenhall. In a 2012 interview with Elle, she gushed about their first meeting, stating,

“It happened out of the blue. This really drunk guy was hitting on me, making such an idiot of himself, yelling at me. He was, like, [slurring, scowling, pointing finger in her face] ‘You don’t know me.'”

“And I was like, ‘Yeah, I know. I don’t know you!’ Jim came over and said, ‘Please excuse my friend. He’s just broken up with someone.’ Jim was a really good friend, pulling him out of that situation. That’s just kind of who he is, a really good person.”

The two announced their engagement in December 2010 and got married the following year in March 2011 during a laid-back ceremony on Witherspoon’s ranch in Ojai, California.
