A Rhode Island Teacher’s Fan Steals the US President Donald Trump’s Thunder, Their Photo Being Liked By Many
A teacher from Rhode Island has managed to steal the limelight away from US President Donald Trump in a photo. What was the reason behind this? Dig in to find the answer to this.
The Incident
It takes a certain something to steal the limelight when you are standing next to the world’s most powerful man. And luckily for Nikos Giannopoulos, he knew exactly what that something would be when he walked into the Oval Office: a fan.
And thanks to that one fan, the photo of the special education teacher, the US President, and the First Lady has gone viral. The fan belonging to his partner stole the show.
He told NPR that, despite the President’s immediate appreciation for the fan, which he praised as “stylish“, Giannopoulos was told by the White House staff to put it away for the official picture.
Nikos instead decided to quietly keep it by his side until it was time for the photo.
“I just asked the president, ‘Do you mind if I use the fan for the photo?’ He said, ‘Absolutely go for it.’ So I popped my fan and did my pose.”
And the result? A viral photo that has been “liked” thousands of times.
Background to The White House Visit
The 29-year-old special education teacher from Rhode Island was named Teacher of the Year.
Teachers from every state, including Nikos, traveled to Washington to meet President Trump at the White House along with other state teachers.
Nikos made very specific decisions about what to wear for the occasion.
Later on, Nikos went on to reveal in a Facebook post that he wore a rainbow pin, in “gratitude to the LGBTQ community“, a blue jacket and black fan to “celebrate the joy and freedom of gender non-conformity“, and an anchor necklace in honor of his home town of the Rhode Island.
