Talking about the career journey of Rudy Gay, he started playing basketball professionally in 2006. He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by the Houston Rockets in the 2006 NBA draft.

He was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies along with Stromile Swift in exchange for Shane Battier on 12 July 2006. As a rookie, he recorded an average of 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds for team Grizzlies.

On 8 July 2010, he signed a five-year contract extension worth $82 million with the Memphis Grizzlies but he was traded to Toronto Raptors on 30 January 2013.

While playing for team Raptors, he set a franchise record by scoring 74 points in his first three games.

On 9 December 2013, he was traded to Sacramento Kings and exercised his $19.3 million contract option with the Kings for the 2014-15 season on 22 June 2014.

On 19 November 2014, he signed a three-year contract extension with the Kings. Since then he has been playing for team Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He was also a team member of the United States that won a gold medal in the 2010 FIBA World Championship and 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
