Has Rupert Murdoch and Ann Lesley called off their engagement?

Rupert Murdoch and Ann Lesley, who announced their engagement in mid-March, are reportedly no longer an engaged couple.

The media tycoon, 92, announced his engagement to Ann, a former police chaplain, on March 20 in an interview with The New York Post.

Murdoch, who has been married four times earlier, revealed he proposed to his six-month girlfriend with an Asscher-cut diamond solitaire ring. The proposal was held in San Franciso on St. Patrick’s Day Friday, March 17.

Similarly, the newly engaged couple planned to wed this summer. This was going to be Rupert’s fifth wedding.

Unfortunately, their engagement has abruptly called off after the couple reportedly reluctantly made a “mutual decision” following discussions last night.

A friend close to the couple confirmed Ms. Smith struggled to be in the spotlight,

‘She just could not cope with being in the public eye. She is very private. They sat down and talked yesterday and agreed it was better for them to part,”
“He accepts that he will always be in the public eye and there is nothing he can or would do to change that.”

However, the pair has yet to comment on the news.

While another friend told the Daily Mail that Murdoch still has a lot of affection for Ann.

“He admires her, respects her and thinks she is an amazing woman. He loves the fact she is so calm and so strong … and she shares his religious convictions.”

Murdoch and Smith met in September 2022 at his vineyard Moraga in Bel Aie, California. The 66-years old dental hygienist is a widow. She previously married the late country music singer Chester Smied who died in 2008.

Before Chester, she was married to wealthy attorney John B. Huntington, a member of the Huntington railroad family.
