Dwayne Wade allegedly forced his trans daughter to change gender
Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, the former wife of Dwyane Wade is accusing him of making lots of money by forcing their 15-year-old trans daughter, Zaya Wade to change her gender.
Funches famously objected to her former spouse’s petition to change the 15-year-old’s name due to various factors outlined in court documents.
The 41-year-old author said that the former NBA star, 40, “is positioned to profit from the minor child’s name and gender change with various companies through contacts and marketing opportunities including but not limited to deals with Disney.”
She added:
“I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies.”
Siohvaughn also revealed that when she met Wade in April 2022, the former baller told her that a lot of money had already been made in Zaya’s name and gender.
The public speaker went on with her allegations and said:
“[Wade] told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith,”
Funches then used her trans daughter’s dead name in the filing and claimed:
“Zion, who was present at the time, answered that various companies were interested and that Disney was a prospective company.”

The concerned mother also claims that her daughter’s transition was highly publicized. She also worries that there will likely be media pressure on her minor child.
She also wants her daughter to make her own life decisions when she turns 18 in two and a half years.
Meanwhile, Wade hasn’t responded to his ex-wife’s legal documents.
The former Miami Heat player, however, stated in his court filing that Funches received notice of his petition as a courtesy.
The pro baller first shared Zaya’s coming out story on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2020. He told Ellen that the then 12-year-old was ready to live her truth. Additionally, he asked everyone to refer to her with female pronouns.
The teen is very active on social media. There she has fully embraced her identity as a trans woman on her own. She uses she/her pronouns in her bio.
Wade surprised fans during an interview with Robin Roberts in February 2020. There he said his child knew that she was different since she was 3 years old.
Apart from Zaya, Dwyane, and Siohvaughn also share a 20-year-old son called Zaire. The baller is also father to two younger children: son Xavier, 8, with Aja Metoyer, and daughter Kaavia, 3, with Union.
