Who is Stormzy?

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. known as Stormzy is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter. He gained attention on the UK underground music scene through his series of freestyles.

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. a 29-year-old was born on July 26, 1993,  in Croydon, London to Ghanaian parents. His Zodiac Sign is Leo. His father used to work as a taxi driver in London. He was a very naughty child and was on the verge of getting expelled from school.

Stormzy was a single-parent child and grew up in South Norwood, London with his mother and three siblings two sisters and one brother.

Stormzy studied in a local community school and was a naughty child. He used to get six A’s, three As, and five Bs on his GCSEs.

Stormzy got average grades in his A Levels and studied for apprentices in Leamington Spa. He started rapping at age of 11 and would clash with older rappers at a local youth club.

Stormzy: Professional Life, Career

In July 2014 Stormzy released his first debut “EP Dreamers Disease” and won the Best Grime Act at the MOBO Awards. He performed the song “Not That Deep” from “Dreamers Disease”. He became the first unsigned rapper to appear on Later.

In March 2015 the single “Know Me From”  was released. It was ranked at number 49 on UK Singles Chart. In September 2015,  “WickedSkengman 4” was released on iTunes with a studio version of “Shut Up” which charted at number 18 on the UK chart and became the first-ever freestyle track to reach the top 40 in the United Kingdom.

In April 2016, the non-album song “Scary” was released and after a year of break, Stormzy returned in February 2017 through a series of billboard campaigns across London displaying      #GSAP 24.02 (Gang Signs & Prayer). And the album was released on February 24 2017 was debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart on March 3, 2017. In 2020 Stormzy appeared as a fictional character in an action-adventure game Watch Dogs. On 23 September 2022, he released the single “Mel made Me Do It”. His first solo since 2020 and on 14 October 2022 another track was released titled “Hide & Seek”.

Awards and Nomination Stormzy has won several awards to this date including the Best Grime Act in 2014/15. Recently he won the Brit award for best Male Solo Artist in 2020.

Controversy

Stormzy has been through many controversies to this date as he keeps giving controversial statements on Twitter. In November 2017, it was found that he posted a series of tweets on Twitter that was deemed to be homophobic that includes referring to himself as a gay character. Still, later on, he tweeted I take responsibility for all the mistakes that I’ve made to this date as I was a young guy during that period and my younger self doesn’t reflect who I am now.

On 7 October 2020, a grime artist posted a video of Stormzy and several others at Chip’s house with the caption,

“June……”   which resulted in police being called. This clip created a huge fuss.

In 2019 he claimed that there was 100% racism in the UK in an interview that got heated up on various social media.
