Bollywood woke up to shocking news this Sunday about the sudden accidental death of 54-years-old famous Bollywood actress Sridevi.

This actress who romanced the camera since the age of 4 has done more than 300 films in her 50 years of cinema acting.

She has portrayed full-of-life bubbly characters on-screen and became popular due to her great portrayals of them.

About her untimely death!

Sridevi had gone to Dubai to attend the destination wedding of their nephew Mohit Marwah. She was accompanied by her husband Boney Kapoor and her youngest daughter named Khushi. While her husband and daughter came back, she stayed on for the auction of her paintings.

Boney Kapoor then returned to Dubai to give her a surprise dinner date. She was in her hotel room at Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. She was found dead in the bathtub on 24 February 2018 at around 10.30-11 pm.

While some say that it was Boney Kapoor who found her body first, others state that it was the hotel staff who first sensed something amiss when she did not open the door. They then forced open the door of her room and discovered her body.

She was rushed to Dubai Rashid Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Postmortem revealed that she died of accidental drowning and alcohol was found in her blood.

Director Ram Gopal Varma’s open letter on the internet!

Director Ram Gopal Varma had worked with Sridevi on multiple movies. He put an open letter on the internet which stated that she was an unhappy soul.

He wrote:

“For many, Sridevi’s life was perfect. Beautiful face, great talent, seemingly stable family with two beautiful daughters. From outside everything looked so enviable and desirable… But was Sridevi a very happy person and did she lead a very happy life?”

He added:

“She went through so much in her life and due to her early career entry, life never gave her time to grow up at a normal pace,”

He continued:

“I could see in her eyes the pain she was going through deep inside her and that’s because she is actually a child trapped in a woman’s body…she is naive as a person, but suspicious because of her bitter experiences, which is not a very good combination…,”

Betrayal by her father’s close relatives and friends

She was paid in the 1980s and 1990s in black. Sridevi’s father Ayyapan Yanger was concerned about tax raids and hence he used to keep the money with his friends and relatives. But after his father’s death in 1991, her relatives betrayed her and did not pay her back her money.

Overprotective mother

Sridevi’s mother Rajeswari Yanger was rather overprotective towards her. Besides, she used to control her life quite harshly. Sridevi’s sister had eloped with her lover and Rajeswari willed all her assets to Sridevi. However, she invested in the wrong places and properties and this resulted in heavy losses to Sridevi.

Sridevi is said to have been left with a scarce amount of money when she met her husband. Boney Kapoor too was in huge debt at that time.

Her sister filed a case stating that she has the right to half the property of her mother. Legal proceedings followed and Sridevi found no one with her except Boney Kapoor.

A 1987 issue of Stardust states:

“The interests of a woman who had never had a formal education, never made a decision for herself, never done anything but act in the movies, were precisely nothing. When she wasn’t working, she wandered aimlessly through her house clutching a large stuffed doll, in effect an effigy of herself.”

Though she was bubbly and highly active in front of the camera, off-camera she was a shy, reticent, insecure person. Her life experiences had much to do with it.

A loving husband and daughters

She married Boney Kapoor in 1996 and was already pregnant with his child before marriage. Boney Kapoor later divorced his first wife Mona. Sridevi had two daughters with Boney Kapoor, Jhanvi, 20, and Khushi, 17.

Worried about her daughters

Though she had a happy marriage, Sridevi was always excessively worried about her children. She used to wonder whether the industry would accept them. There was always some pain and sadness noticeable in her eyes even though she had a doting family in Boney Kapoor and her daughters.

RIP, May her soul rest in peace. We hope that God gives her family the strength to cope with her sudden demise, especially her little daughters.
