Van Jones is an American author, producer, actor, news commentator, and non-practicing attorney.

He is famous for his best-selling book The Green Collar Economy, in 2008.

He is the founder of the various non-profit organization including the Dream Corps, a “social justice accelerator”

Van Jones was born on 20th September 1968, in Jackson, Tennessee, USA. He was born along with his twin sister Angela.

His father’s name is Willie Anthony Jones, a principal at a middle school. His mother, Loretta Jean (née Kirkendoll), was a high school teacher.

Along with his sister, Van Jones was raised in the Christian Methodist Episcopal church where his grandfather was a leader. He is of American nationality and Afro-American ethnicity.

Van Jones completed his High School at Jackson Central-Merry High School in 1986. Later he graduated with B.S. in communication and political science from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Before, joining Yale Law School from 1990 to 1993 in  Connecticut, he worked as an intern. He interned at the Jackson Sun (Tennessee), the Shreveport Times (Louisiana), and the Associated Press (Nashville bureau).

After getting internships from various universities including UT Martin he then went on to launch and lead several independent, campus-based publications like the Fourteenth Circle (University of Tennessee), the Periscope (Vanderbilt University), the New Alliance Project (statewide in Tennessee), and the Third Eye (Nashville’s African-American community).

Van Jones was a legal observer for NGO, Ella Baker Center for Human Rights which works to reform California’s youth prison system in 1996. After leaving this organization as executive director he has dedicated his work to the same goals like Rebuild the Dream, Color of Change, Green for All, Center for American Progress, and Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

From June 2013 to 2014 he was a host of the CNN show CrossFire and was an Administrator advisor of former President Obama. Now he is a commentator on CNN since 2012. Furthermore, he is an author of bestselling books like The Green Collar Economy(2008), Rebuild The Dream (2012) and Beyond the Messy Truth: How We Came Apart, How We Come Together(2017).
