Who is Gucci’s New Creative Director Sabato De Sarno?

Sabato De Sarno is a designer who joins Gucci with an impressive résumé. Naples-born De Sarno began his career at Prada before moving on to Dolce & Gabbana. He worked closely with Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino for the previous 12 years.

Over the past 13 years, he has played a significant role in the design studio at Valentino, helping it transform from a symbol of classic elegance to the most talked-about brand on social media with the ability to establish trends around the globe.

A summer in which “Valentino pink” became the new black, from the red carpets of Hollywood to the high-street shop floor, was inaugurated when Valentino declared fuchsia the color of the season with a Paris runway show saturated with sweet tones.

De Sarno worked his way through the organization until he was in charge of Valentino’s creative direction for both menswear and womenswear. He may have contributed to the most well-known wedding gown of last year, which Nicola Peltz wore when she married Brooklyn Beckham.

De Sarno is the successor of Alessandro Michele

Alessandro Michele’s departure from Gucci was announced in November of last year, and the position has been open ever since. When Michele was promoted from head of accessories to creative director in 2015, the fashion world was taken aback, and many people attacked him in a manner akin to that of De Sarno.

He did, however, contribute significantly to a time of rapid expansion and rekindled interest in the opulent Italian fashion brand. During his tenure, Gucci’s revenue nearly tripled, rising from €3.9 billion in 2015 to €9. 7 billion in 2021. Quarterly growth rates occasionally surpassed 50%.

Michele merged traditional Gucci hallmarks with a more contemporary look while appreciating the legacy of the Italian fashion house.

In Europe, the US, and China, he attracted a new generation of younger buyers with his gender-neutral aesthetic and use of an eclectic cacophony of designs, colors, and textures. Since 2017, Gucci has exhibited men’s and women’s collections together.

He also gained famous admirers throughout his reign, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Dakota Johnson.
