Professional basketball player Al Harrington was born in Orange and raised in Roselle, New Jersey. He is of African-American ethnicity and has an American nationality.
He was born on 17 February 1980 and named Albert ‘Al’ Harrington. His mother’s name is Lela Suapaia he is a nurse in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and his father’s name is unknown.
Till the age of three, he was bought up by his maternal grandmother in the small village in Pago Pago.

He went to Punahou School until 1954. During his school days, he was interested in sports and also played football for the school’s team.
In 1958, he graduated with a B.A. degree specializing in History. He studied at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Reflecting on the career journey of Al Harrington, he started playing basketball professionally after being selected by Indiana Pacers in the 1998 NBA draft.
At the age of just 18, he got selected and started playing professionally from the Pacers. During the 2001-2 season, he suffered a knee injury which forced him to miss most of the matches.
On 15 July 2004, he was traded to Atlanta Hawks but again acquired and traded back to Pacers on 22 August 2006. On 17 January 2007, he was traded to Golden State Warriors but after playing a year for Warriors he got traded to New York Knicks.
On 21 November 2008, he got traded to Knicks in exchange for Jamal Crawford. After being a free agent, he signed a two-year contract with Denver Nuggets on 15 July 2010.
At the end of his contract, he was traded to Orlando Magic on 10 August 2012 and played from there for a year.
On 14 August 2013, he signed with the Washington Wizards but soon became a free agent after a year. On 11 August 2014, he signed with Fujian Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association but soon left in November 2014.
When he came back to NBA nobody tried to offer a contract and he announced his retirement from professional basketball on 18 March 2015.
On 28 October 2015, Harrington later came out of retirement and signed with Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League as a replacement for Josh Childress.
He played last game against New Zealand Breakers as Childress came back from recovering his injuries.
