Amy Lee is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. In addition, she is also a multi-instrumentalist.

She is best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the rock band Evanescence.

Lee has also worked on numerous other musical projects including Walt Disney Records’ Nightmare Revisited and Muppets: The Green Album.

She composed the soundtrack to War Story (2014) and Indigo Grey: The Passage (2015).

Amy Lee is the daughter of John Lee, a disc jockey and TV personality, and Sara Cargill. She has a brother named Robby Lee and two sisters named Carrie Lee and Lori Lee. Lee had a younger sister who died at the age of three from an unidentified illness in 1987.

As a child, Lee moved to several places including West Palm Beach, Florida, and Rockford, Illinois. She then settled in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Lee began her music career in the mid-1990s. She co-founded the rock band Evanescence in 1995 with guitarist Ben Moody.

They recorded two EPs, Evanescence EP (1998) and Sound Asleep EP (1999).

Later, the band Evanescence recorded the longer EP Origin in 2000. Moody left the band citing creative differences on October 22, 2003.

After that, ex-Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo replaced Moody in the band as a guitarist and Lee’s writing partner.

In 2003, Amy Lee performed backup vocals for “Missing You” on Big Dismal’s debut album Believe. She sang backup vocals on two songs with the supergroup The Damning Well.

She also performed a duet with her then-boyfriend Shaun Morgan on the track “Broken” for Seether’s 2004 album Disclaimer II.

In 2006, Amy Lee became the American Chairperson for Out of the Shadows. She made an appearance in the music video for Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” in late 2006.

In June 2008, Amy Lee won the 2008 Songwriter Icon Award by the National Music Publishers Association.  Lee won Best Vocalist at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in 2012.

Since then, Amy Lee has written several songs for many artists and movies. She made her debut as a film composer co-scoring the indie film War Story (2014).

Amy Lee released her album Dream Too Much in 2016. Lee released an English-language cover of Francesca Michielin’s “L’amore esiste” on February 10, 2017.
