Luther Vandross was an American singer, record producer, and songwriter. He was the vocalist for several different artists like Bette Midler, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Judy Collins, and Ben E. King among others. Some of his hit songs include ‘Never Too Much’, ‘Any Love’, and ‘I Can Make It Better’.

Vandross was born as Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. in New York City, New York on April 20, 1951. He was born to parents Mary Ida Vandross and Luther Vandross, Sr. Additionally, he developed an interest in music since his childhood years and he taught himself to play the piano. He was of American nationality. Furthermore, he belonged to African-American ethnic background.

Talking about his education, Vandross graduated from William Howard Taft High School. In addition, he later attended Western Michigan University but dropped out to pursue a career in music.

Vandross initially founded the first Patti LaBelle fan club. In addition, he appeared several times at the Apollo’s famous amateur night in his initial years. He also sang backing vocals to Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway. Additionally, he was a backup vocalist for artists including Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Chaka Khan, Ben E. King, Bette Midler, and Donna Summer among others. Since then, he released several successful albums.

Some of Vandross’ albums include ‘Luther’, ‘This Close to You’, ‘Never Too Much’, ‘Forever, for Always, for Love’, ‘Busy Body’, ‘The Night I Fell in Love’, ‘Give Me the Reason’, ‘Any Love’, ‘Power of Love’, ‘Never Let Me Go’, ‘This Is Christmas’, and ‘Dance with My Father’ among others. Furthermore, Vandross had also been part of several tours including Take You Out Tour (2001–2002), Best of Love Tour (1990), Busy Body Tour (1984) and Any Love World Tour (1988–1989). He suffered from diabetes and hypertension. Eventually, he was in a coma for nearly two months after suffering a severe stroke at his home. He later died on July 1, 2005, at the JFK Medical Center due to a heart attack.

Vandross won three Grammy Awards in his career. Additionally, he also won Soul Train Music Awards and American Music Award. Furthermore, he received several other nominations in his career.
