“There is no need to have such a glamorous event, Prince Andrew – who is fabulously wealthy with an estimated worth of £65m – should foot the bill himself.”
He went on:
“Who’s heard of Princess Eugenie anyway? She carries no royal functions, no useful purpose to the public sphere and yet we’re having to spend this kind of money,”
Labour MP Emma Dent Coad spoke to Daily Mirror. He stated:
“In these times of heightened security risks it is irresponsible for a minor member of the royal family to have a high profile, very public wedding. This may be the time to review the role and cost of minor royals.”
Why the outcry only for Princess Eugenie’s wedding?
It is learned that the previous two royal weddings of the two sons of Princess Diana; Prince William and Prince Harry also had a much heftier security budget.
At the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the figure was $ 32 million and for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, it stood at $40 million.
