On 18 January 2006, he signed a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets and he again signed with the Rockets for the rest of the season. On 7 March 2006, he was assigned to D-League.

On 22 December 2011, the Kings agreed to sign a four-year contract worth $22.4 million, and on 9 December 2013, he was traded to Toronto Raptors.

On 31 August 2015, he signed with Los Angeles Clippers but he was released from the team on 24 October.

Likewise, on 1 November 2015, Hayes signed with Houston Rockets but he was soon released from the team just appearing in two games.
