The final goodbye! Late former first lady Rosalynn Carter was honored on Wednesday, November 29 at her funeral by her closest friends and family.

Three days of memorials to the late First Lady have come to an end with her private funeral. The private funeral took place at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia.

The memorial service is also joined by his 99-year-old husband Jimmy Carter, who has been in hospice care since February.

This is Jimmy’s first public appearance after Rosalynn’s death.

The former president was in a wheelchair wearing a dark suit and red lei around his neck.

Jason Carter previously told The New York Times that his grandfather, despite his physical condition, was determined to attend Rosalynn’s memorial service.

He told the outlet that he was “coming to the end” and “very, very, physically diminished” and that they were concerned about him.

“But I think he was proud and happy that he was there for her till the very end, and he wasn’t going to miss this for anything. He has been this moral rock for so many people, but she really was that rock for him. He’s glad he’s not going to miss it, but we’re all worried about him.”

Many politicians arrived at the funeral to give tribute to Ms. Carter including First Lady Jill Biden, Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden, and former President Bill Clinton.

A heartwarming letter from Jimmy Carter to Rosalynn Carter

Jimmy Carter’s daughter Amy Carter read a letter written 75 years ago by her father to his wife during the funeral service. The letter begins,

“My darling every time I have ever been away from you, I have been thrilled when I returned to discover just how wonderful you are. While I’m away I tried to convince myself you could not be as sweet and beautiful as I remember.”
“But when I see you, I fall in love with you all over again. Does that seem strange to you? It doesn’t to me. Goodbye darling. Until tomorrow Jimmy.”

When his daughter had been reading the letter, Jimmy was seated in the front row.

Similarly, she had shed tears while speaking about her parents. She said,

“My mom spent most of her life in love with my dad. Their partnership and love story was a defining feature of her life. Because he isn’t able to speak to you today. I’m going to share some of his words about loving and missing.”
