Who is Keith Olbermann?

Keith Olbermann is an American sports journalist and political commentator. He is also a famous American sportswriter and author. Keith is best known as the former host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann. He is currently the host of GQ’s political web show The Resistance with Keith Olbermann.

Keith Olbermann was born Keith Theodore Olbermann on January 27, 1959, in New York City, New York, United States. He is an American by nationality and he is of mixed ethnicity (German, Polish, English, Irish, French).

Keith is the elder son of Marie Katherine and Theodore Olbermann.

His father is a commercial architect and his mother is a preschool teacher. He has a younger sister named Jenna Olbermann. Keith grew up in Westchester County with his family.

He became the author of the book The Major League Coaches when he was 14 years old.

As a child, Keith attended Hackley School and Farragut Middle School. After completing school education, he attended Cornell University at the age of 16 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Arts in 1979. As a teenager, he was a baseball fan and he often wrote about baseball card collecting.

Keith began his journalism career at a very young age. During his school days, Olbermann began his broadcasting career as a play-by-play announcer for WHTR.

At college, he served as sports director for WVBR, a student-run commercial radio station in Ithaca. After two years of graduation, Keith began his professional career in 1981, working for UPI and the RKO Radio Network. That same year, he was signed by CNN.

During his early days, he covered the 1980 Winter Olympics stories. In the mid-1980s, he became a sportscaster on the old WNEW 1130-AM radio station in New York City.

At that time, he worked as a sports anchor at WCVB-TV in Boston and he moved to Los Angeles to work at KTLA and KCBS. During his time in New York City, he was named best sportscaster by the California Associated Press three times and his work there earned him 11 Golden Mike Awards.

Olbermann joined ESPN’s SportsCenter in 1992 and worked there until 1997. After that, he was signed by ESPN2 to help launch the network.

He won a Cable ACE Award–Best Sportscaster in 1995. He became the producer and anchor for Fox Sports Net from 1998 to 2001. Keith also worked as the host for Fox Sports’ coverage of Major League Baseball.

In 2003, he became the host of the political commentary program, Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, and worked on the show until 2011.

Currently, Keith is working as the host of GQ’s political web show, The Resistance with Keith Olbermann. He has published several books, including “The Big Show: A Tribute to ESPN’s SportsCenter”.
