Who is Lori Stokes?

Lori Stokes is an American TV journalist mostly known as the co-anchor of ‘Eyewitness News’. She is currently working as an anchor for WABC-TV alongside Ken Rosato.

She is the first African-American to broadcast on MSNCB.

Lori was born in Cleveland, Ohio on the 16th of September, 1962. She is the daughter of Louis Stokes(father) and Jay Stokes(mother).

She belongs to an African-American ethnic background and grew up in Washington, D.C. As of 2021, she is 59 years old.

Further, Lori Stokes is the niece of Carl Stokes.

Lori Stokes began her career in journalism as a medical reporter and later in 1986, started working as a weekend co-anchor at ‘WCIA’ in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.

She was a reporter and a weekend anchor for ‘WBTV’ in Charlotte for three years.

Lori Stokes also worked for WBFF-TV as a crime and street reporter. She was appointed as a full-time anchor for the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts as WJLA-TV‘s lead female anchor.

She later joined ‘MSNBC’ and became an anchor for the 24-hour cable news.

During her time on NBC News, Lori was a rotating newsreader for ‘Weekend Today’ and ‘NBC Sunrise’.

During her career as a journalist, Lori covered some of the major incidents including the Columbine High School Massacre and the death of John F. Kennedy, Jr.

The most notable work in her career came after she was appointed as the sole anchor of ‘Eyewitness News This Morning’ and ‘Eyewitness News at Noon’ which became the top show.

Her afternoon news was extended to be a full-hour show. Recently, Lori left  WABC, Eyewitness News after serving for 17 years.

She is a recipient of an Emmy Award for her in-depth coverage of children caught in the crossfire of local violence.

Lori Stokes was also nominated for the same award in 2006 for a police chase in which she reported live in 2005.

Lori Stokes also won the George P. Foster Peabody Award. She was named a ‘Woman of Influence’ by Commerce Magazine.

Lori Stokes is an active member of ‘Jack and Jill of America’, an organization that brings children together in a balanced social and cultural environment. She is the first African-American to broadcast on MSNCB.

On October 4, 2017, Stokes will begin her first day as co-host of Good Day New York alongside Rosanna Scotto on Fox 5 WNYW, taking over for Greg Kelly.

Lori Stokes was reassigned to WNYW’s evening programs in June 2021.
