Fans are finally relieved after One Direction shared a joint statement in honor of their late bandmate Liam Payne who died on Wednesday. He was 31. On Thursday, the four surviving members of the British boyband, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson shared a joint statement telling how they are coping with the loss of their brother.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” it began. “In time, and when everyone can, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.”

The statement continued: “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam. Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry.”

Tomlinson said that he would love to share the stage with his late brother. Meanwhile, Malik said that he was beyond devastated at the loss, and Styles revealed that he is heartbroken for his lovely friend.

On October 16, Wednesday, news of Payne’s death came when the pop star fell from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Argentine news channel TN was the first to break the sad news to his fans.

Alberto Crescenti (the head of SAME, Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services system) told the outlet that the singer had fallen from the balcony into the hotel’s courtyard.

What was the cause of Payne’s death?

The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office later confirmed that the cause of the singer-songwriter’s death was due to multiple injuries and “internal and external” hemorrhages.

Authorities confirmed that 25 injuries in the autopsy were “compatible with those caused by a fall from a height” and noted that “the head injuries were sufficient to cause death.”

There were also “internal and external hemorrhages” of the skull, thorax, abdomen, and limbs that caused Payne’s instant death. Payne is survived by his son Bear Grey, 7, who he shares with his ex, Cheryl Cole.

Payne’s last public appearance was at Niall Horan’s concert on October 2 in Buenos Aires. He seemed in great spirits as he attended the event with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
