Patrice Evra returned to the English Premier League as he joined West Ham United on a free transfer after being sacked from the Ligue 1 side Marseille.

The former French football team captain is now a hammer. Patrice Evra has recently joined West Ham United on a free transfer after being fired by Marseille.

Back in November, he was kicked out from the French side Marseille after he aimed a kick at a Marseille supporter before the game.

After the incident, UEFA fined him an £8,000 fine and a UEFA ban from European competitions. However, he was eligible to play in the Premier League.

Furthermore, his kick also evoked memories of Manchester United Eric Cantona’s kung-fu kick on a Crystal Palace fan.

Now, the 36-year-old full-back will stay until the end of this season. Furthermore, he will make his West Ham debut against Watford at the London Stadium on Saturday.

After his signing, the Frenchman said,

“I’m really happy to be a Hammer, to be back in the Premier League and I love this game. It’s amazing to be back and I am thankful to West Ham for giving me the opportunity to do my job. You don’t realise how lucky you are and just to wake up this morning and know I am going to train with my new team-mates made me smile. It happened really fast.”

Further, he added,

“My agent called me and told me I needed to come back from Dubai to London as quickly as I could and I had a nice meeting with the manager, who I know from Manchester United, and I met the chairman, David Sullivan, so it was really easy.”

There was also the news that West Ham fans are unhappy over the decision of the club and are planning a large protest ahead of their home game against Burnley next month.
