Catherine, the Princess of Wales honored the Queen in the most touching way while attending the late monarch’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
The future Queen of England arrived at the abbey in a regal black veil hat and meaningful jewels that once belonged to the late Queen. She wore the pearl-and-diamond set to the funeral which she also wore at Prince Philip‘s funeral in April 2021.
Princess Catherine wore the Queen’s stunning four-row pearl choker with a diamond clasp. She matched it with her Bahrain Pearl Earrings which also had pearls and diamonds.
The precious necklace which has pearls and diamonds was reportedly a gift to her Majesty by the Japanese government in the 70s when she made a state visit to the country.
The Duchess of Cambridge has also worn the jewel to a dinner celebrating the 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip 4 years ago.
Princess Diana also wore the necklace on numerous occasions in the 1980s.
As for the earrings, The Court Jeweler confirmed that they were a gift to her Majesty as her wedding gift by the Hakim of Bahrain in 1947.
The Princess of Wales has also worn the earrings on many other occasions like Royal Ascot, Remembrance Sunday, and Color Troopings.

History of pearls in royal mourning
The history of pearls goes back to Queen Victoria after she chose the jewels after the death of her husband Prince Albert. Some say “the pearls were thought to represent tears — establishing a tradition that has lasted until the present day.”
Catherine also kept the royal tradition by wearing a veiled hat for the sad day. Royal historians say that veils are “often considered to be ‘armor’ and would shield their grief from the public.”
Another subtle tribute the future Queen paid to the late monarch was by wearing a black version of the Alexander McQueen coat dress she wore in white during the Queen’s platinum Jubilee in June.
Princess Charlotte,7, also paid a lovely tribute to her late Gan Gan.
The 3rd in line to the throne wore a diamond brooch in the shape of a horseshoe that was a gift from her Majesty.
Charlotte also reportedly shares the Queen’s love for horses.
It was the first time we’d seen the princess wear a brooch or an important piece of royal jewelry.
The young royal who joined her elder brother Prince George for the funeral looked all grown-up in a black hat by Jane Taylor. She styled her look with a coat dress from the Spanish childrenswear label Ancar, black tights, and shoes.
Both the royal children looked extremely disciplined as they walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey with their parents, Prince William, and Princess Catherine.
