The son of Jean and John, Steve Francis was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was born on 7 February 1974 as Stephen John ‘Steve’ Nash. He is of mixed ethnicity of English and Welsh and has both British and Canadian nationality.

For his schooling, he joined St. Michaels, a private boarding school in Victoria, and attended Santa Clara College where he was awarded a scholarship for the 1992-93 season.

Steve Nash graduated from Santa Clara with a degree in sociology. Before basketball, he often used to play hockey and soccer.

Steve Nash has been active in the sports field since 1996 and left playing in 2015. He started playing for the Suns in 1996 but soon left the team in 1998. He joined Dallas Mavericks in 1998 playing alongside Dirk Nowitzki but returned to the Suns in 2004.

Returning to the Suns, he missed his first match when coach D’Antoni was replaced by Terry Porter and started a more defensive style of basketball.

On 11 July 2012, he was traded to Los Angeles Lakers.  He was thinking to join either New York or Toronto but joined the Lakers thinking that it will be the best fit for him as well as his family.

Steve Nash played with the Lakers till 2015 and announced his retirement. But before his retirement, Cleveland Cavaliers said he was interested in him which he refused, and retired on 21 March 2015.

His success in his career path has paid him well financially making his net worth estimated to be $95 million as of 2022.
