Texas Tech’s Kliff is a coach on the hot seat

The Texas Tech coach began the year on the hot seat. But the Red Raiders played well in September, beating both Arizona State and Houston, then taking OSU to the wire before losing 41-34.

Tech has lost 46-35 at West Virginia (after sporting a big lead) and 31-13 at home to Iowa State. And now it’s not such a renaissance season for the Red Raiders.

Kingsbury is 28-29 in 4-1/2 seasons at his alma mater. Tech really can’t afford to buy out Kingsbury’s contract. But it also can’t afford a third losing season in four years.

Tech will play at OU, and that means Baker Mayfield is licking his chops. The Sooners have posted 66 and 63 points, respectively, in their two seasons of Mayfield quarterbacking against his former school.

Another blowout could send Tech into a spiral that would not be good for Kingsbury.

All the nightmares Iowa State can offer

Kliff Kingsbury to the growing list of college football personalities impressed with what has become this Joel Lanning Phenomenon that Iowa State football fans know so well.

He was impressed with what his guys couldn’t stop last season. Lanning’s five rushing touchdowns in that 66-10 victory, no one will forget.

He’s more than impressed now while trying to plot strategy against all the talented playmakers he’ll see during Saturday’s 11 a.m. game in Lubbock.

The Texas Tech coach told reporters,

“You can see that he’s a heady player on defense, He can diagnose things quickly, and he’s tough enough to stick his nose in there on defense. With all the academic things you have on you and all the time constraints you have as a college athlete, it’s beyond impressive.”

The last time Kingsbury and Lanning met, the former quarterback-only Cyclones star owned the end zone. Iowa State was in the process of scoring its most points ever against a conference opponent.

Kingsbury’s gossips

Kliff became part of a controversy after Davis Webb blamed a ‘lack of communication’ during the season with Kliff on his way out the door. This criticism surrounded him with several other controversies.

Furthermore, Kliff’s near-nude photo made headlines across the globe. There was also a rumor that suggested that he might be gay which has not been confirmed by him.

There was also a rumor that Kliff was once romantically involved with Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears.
